Duration of Study

The study of theology leading to the degree of Bachelor of Theology is a full-time study course and takes at least 12 quarters (trimesters), that is four years. It is subdivided into two equally long periods of study of 6 trimesters each: the basic courses (1st and 2nd year) and the main courses (3rd and 4th year). The whole B.Th. Program amounts to 198 credits total.
Upon request and consultation with the Dean of the Department of Theology the duration of studies may be extended.
First Phase of Study
- The first part of study lasts six trimesters or two years.
- This part involves 99 credits (if there are no evident skills in Hebrew and Greek yet).
- Only the successful completion of the first phase of study entitles to begin the second.
Second Phase of Study
- The second part of study involves six trimesters or two years.
- This part involves 99 credits.
- The second part is completed with a final comprehensive examination.
Comprehensive Examination
- The comprehensive examination is an oral examination administered by a committee.
- The comprehensive examination consists of two parts which are examined in an integrative and interdisciplinary manner:
- Biblical Theology
- Practical Theology
- The comprehensive examination can only be passed if every part of the examination has been passed. Failed parts of the examination can be repeated after at least four weeks.
- After the successful completion of the examination the candidate receives a final grade certificate including the grades of the parts of the examination as well as the average grade of the completed courses of study, and a diploma.
Internships
Students have to do internships pertaining to different parts of church life, spread over the 12 trimesters of study.
Academic Degree
- Students who have successfully completed their study of theology receive the academic degree of Bachelor of Theology.
- The academic degree is awarded at the graduation service.
- The academic degree is awarded by means of a diploma.
